Kent College offers excellence in a wide variety of fields. A strong academic tradition ensures continuing success at GCSE and A level where a broad curriculum encompasses every interest. The school focuses, however, on the whole individual and excellent facilities are augmented by a bewildering array of extra-curricular activity. The standards in sport and music are consistently high, one of Britain's most famous hockey Olympiads, Sean Kerly, is a resident Houseparent and hockey coach. Major European and inter-continental tours have taken place in both areas over the last year.
All pupils are expected to engage in at least one club or activity; most involve themselves in more. There is a school farm on site where pupils can experience real country life, including lambing in the early hours! High quality drama is on offer to those who prefer the stage.
The junior school is in the nearby hamlet of Harbledown, surrounded by hop fields. The school now has a large new Sports Hall and classroom block as part of an extensive building programme. This growth has been echoed at Kent College where recent improvements include a floodlit astroturf pitch, sixth form centre and computer network complete with over 70 stations.
Utilising its proximity to the Continent, the College has developed strong European links, particularly with the ex-Soviet bloc. Dyslexia Units in both schools accept a small number of pupils each year and a wide range of scholarships and bursaries are available in many spheres, including music, sport and drama. Service personnel who are eligible for the Boarding School allowance only pay 10% of the total fee.
Alumni - There is a strong Old Canterburian network and distinguished old pupils can be found in every walk of life. John Redwood's academic and political career began at Kent College and many ex-pupils have enjoyed great success in sporting fields, particularly hockey and cricket.
